7 festive wear trends from Lakmi Fashion Week 2020 that you need to try out this season

Evocative fashion films, floaty and mystical visuals, and collections that take you home-this season at Lakme Fashion Week 2020 saw designers take unique approaches as they imagined the year ahead through the lens of design. But among all the narratives, there was plenty of inspiring and mood-lifting creations that will find a place in the upcoming festive season, no matter the size of the celebration. Here, we scan the virtual runways for seven fresh trends that will be ideal starting points to rejuvenate your festive wardrobe with.

1. Fresh combinations

For the festive collection "Moomal- at Raw Mango, Sanjay Garg revisited his native Rajasthan, albeit staying away from traditional Rajasthani costumes. Instead, he presented poshak-inspired long blouses, kurtas with choli cuts and typical Rajasthani necklines and lighter lehengas in green, yellow and pinks. "I-ve always associated peacock green with the state, so the peacock motif appears throughout the collection too," he told Vogue.

2. New drapes

Grecian drapes, geometric prints in vibrant colours, and mirror details dominated the line-up at Saaksha & Kinni′s festive edit. Taking inspiration from the vibrant Banjara community, the duo highlighted mirror and coin work and turn them into novel prints, combined with their signature micro-pleating and fluid drapes.

3. Monochrome lehengas

With a tightened focus on less-is-more, Sukriti & Aakriti unveiled their "Neo-Phulkari" collection with modernistic renditions of the craft. A monochrome palette took over a larger part of the line, including cropped pants, embroidered kurtas, ghararas, dresses and featherlight lehengas made for resort-focused festivities.

4. The all-rounder

It would be hard to count any presentation in the season without splashes of red and pink. The winning combination, however, saw its brightest moment in a flared jumpsuit by Mishru. As the line-up spoke of the poetic joy to be found in a summery orchard in full bloom, the one-piece forms are ideal for AM to PM transitions.

5. Jewel tones

No festive wear edit is complete without a generous serving of jewel tones. From Amit Aggarwal′s metallic threads in shades of plum, violet and fuchsia and Rimzim Dadu′s bottle green to Sunaina Khera′s sunshine yellow, head-to-toe jewel hues were season favourites.

6. Romantic flair

Whether or not you prefer your saris traditional or experimental, there is always room for an update in the accompanying blouses. Take cues from Ridhi Mehra and give the sari blouse a romantic update with billowing balloon sleeves.

7. Dramatic silhouettes

Ditch the floor length anarkali for a printed maxi dress, as seen at Punit Balana, decorated with coin work. Add a matching block-print cape for drama and weightless movement.
