5 Health Benefits of Red, Red Wine-In Case You Need An(other) Excuse
From facials to products: Inside Meghan Markle and Kate Middletons pre-event skincare rituals
When you have the eyes of the world on you, not a single pore or errant blemish goes amiss. It comes as little surprise then that the beauty routines of the royal women have been governed by a fixed doctrine of rules. While specific protocol is set in place for eye makeup and nail colour, a smooth canvas of glowing skin is considered a given. For those highly-touted public appearances, here′s how the ladies of the palace keep their skin glowing and fresh at all times.
Beauty is more than just skin deep, and Meghan Markle clearly agrees. While in London before Pippa Middleton′s nuptials, she made a quick visit to her go-to facialist, Nichola Joss for an inner sculpting facial that does exactly what the name says it does—the treatment targets sagging muscles from within with a lymphatic massage. By coaxing the muscles to sit higher on the face, you′ll notice a visibly youthful visage with lifted, contoured skin from within. "I do facial exercises from one of my favourite aestheticians, Nichola Joss, who basically sculpts your face from the inside out. I swear it works, as silly as you may feel. On the days I do it, my cheekbones and jawline are waaaay more sculpted," confirmed Markle back in 2014.
...in your skincare kit, that is. Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has been relying on Karin Herzog′s skincare line for years, and she turned to the aesthetician′s oxygen regime for delivering the classic English rose glow on her wedding day. Such facials work by delivering the cleansing properties of oxygen gas deep down into the skin to destroy bacteria.
Middleton is said to have enjoyed bee venom-infused products in the days leading up to her wedding. Also known as nature′s Botox, famed beauty therapist Deborah Mitchell treated the soon-to-be duchess′ skin to the collagen-affirming powers of this ingredient. The venom increases blood circulation and stimulates collagen production, causing fine lines and wrinkles to soften in the process.
While bridal beauty routines are famous for starting months in advance, Markle′s commitment to dewy, glowing skin didn′t stop until the night before her wedding. The bride-to-be′s favourite facialist Sarah Chapman revealed in an interview, “Some people find it unusual that I would do facial the day or night before a wedding, but it′s the same with photoshoots and with TV appearances. We′ll work right up to the day before because that′s how we get that incredible glow.†Hydrating oils and serums play a huge role for plumping the skin, but the duchess also relies on her massages for reducing stress in the days leading up to a milestone event.
For important dates on the social calendar, Chapman also recommends her Skinesis Radiance Recharge System—a 10-day regimen that Markle followed in the days leading up to her wedding. The overnight skincare shots champion chamomile extract, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid for intense hydration and reviving the skin′s luminosity. Cue: the dewy, fresh-faced glow that makeup artist Daniel Martin claims had half the job done for the no-makeup makeup look she favoured on the big day.
