Paris′s biannual Haute Couture shows are the epitome of craftsmanship and creativity. The spring/summer 2020 extravaganza takes place from 20 to 23 January, when the French capital plays host to houses such as Ralph & Russo, Giambattista Valli, Elie Saab and more.
First up is Schiaparelli, whose surrealist dreamland and embroidered trompe l′oeil AW19 collection was the first for artistic director Daniel Roseberry in July 2019. There′s also Pierpaolo Piccioli′s highly anticipated offering for Valentino, Maria Grazia Chiuri′s latest from Dior and Virginie Viard′s sophomore couture collection at Chanel following Karl Lagerfeld′s passing in February 2019.
Bouchra Jarrar, who had stints at Christian Lacroix, Balenciaga and Lanvin, returns to couture after hitting pause on her own eponymous label in January 2016. "After 25 years in fashion," the designer tells Vogue, "I felt that it was important to continue my label in a format that lets me get back to the essence of my work."
Haute Couture attracts a decadent display away from the catwalk, too. Hollywood stars, supermodels and stylists descend in the hope of finding a gown worthy of the red carpet. Meanwhile, Vogue photographer Jonathan Daniel Pryce is on the lookout for the best street style.
