This Is the Ultimate WFH Beauty Strategy, According to the Dior Runway

Much like this season′s #WFH-friendly clothes-from dressing gowns to slouchy trousers-Dior′s spring 2021 beauty equation married self-expression with wearability.

It all began with the hair, which saw hairstylist Guido Palau finessing each girl′s natural texture so that it could be worn loose or pulled back into an undone updo topped off with one of the knotted headbands designed by Stephen Jones. "It was Maria Grazia [Chiuri′s] idea of women at home, doing their own hair," explains Palau. "They′re not going to go to a hairdresser-it′s how they do their own hair. It′s naive but stylish at the same time." To create the "easy" updos, Palau first ran Bumble and Bumble′s Thickening Volume Creme Contour through lengths, then blow-dried them for extra definition. Once prepped, he parted the hair down the center, separated it into two sections, braided each of them loosely, then twisted them into a "roll-like" shape. The last step before fastening the statement hair accessories was pulling out flyaways for a soft, natural feeling.

Following the same guiding principles, makeup artist Peter Philips teamed natural skin with strong yet easy-to-carry-off eyes. For a natural glow, Philips first prepped the skin with Dior′s new Energy Super Potent Serum, then added a sheer veil of Backstage Face and Body Foundation to second-skin effect. "I wanted to focus on the eyes and emphasize them powerfully by framing them with very dense, matte black liner," explains Philips, who used the just-released Diorshow 24H Stylo 091 pencil in Matte Black to trace thick (but not too thick) lines along the upper and lower lash lines with soft, rounded edges. A few coats of mascara and swipes of brow gel added further definition to the eyes.

In today′s homebound, Zoom-centric landscape, keeping things practical is nearly a mandate. But that doesn‘t have to hinder expressive statements. As Palau puts it, "With Maria, there′s always going to be an artistic quality to the beauty."
